ownerAs a doula, Yamel sees her role as one to provide emotional support as well as guidance through the pregnancy, birth and postpartum period.
A Registered Nurse with years of experience in Pediatric case management, geriatric care, home health services and skilled nursing.
Yamel began her journey in birth work when she was 10 years old and her mother started laboring at home and was experiencing complications. She vividly remembers bringing her mother to a comfortable position, holding her hand and talking her through some contractions until emergency services arrived to the families second floor Brooklyn, NY apartment. After the experience, Yamel knew she was meant to help mothers and families through the life changing event of bringing a baby earth side, however she also realized she wanted to provide this service at a more personal level outside of her nursing career.
Certification doula and placenta preparation training via Barefoot Birth’s Midwife- Charlie Rae Young, was all necessary to kick Yamel’s childhood passion into full gear and in order to be better equipped to be a vital source of support to families. One Love Doula Services was born out of pure respect and compassion for the process of pregnancy and birth. Her intent is to continue to hold many hands, provide feedback and resources in order to aid in well informed decision making, and most of all to do this with One Love

After the birth of her 1st child, Gaetane realized the importance of educating herself on childbirth, breastfeeding, and antepartum care. She became a labor doula and realized soon after birth, most families lack antepartum support. After the birth of all 4 of her children, the elder women of her family cared for her thoroughly for months and knew that was not the case for many. She is a postpartum doula and Certified Lactation Counselor that has years of experience working with families of multiples and preemies. Gaetane would love to make your transition into parenthood as smooth as possible.Gaetane Joseph, Doula, CLC

Tamara's journey into birth work started long before she'd ever heard the word "Doula." She'd always known she was at her strongest when helping others. It was a role she thrived in. In 2013 she replaced most of the unnatural chemicals in her personal care products and medicine cabinet with essential oils and holistic remedies and cleaners. She now works towards teaching her friends and family better ways to take care of themselves.
As she got older, the women around her started getting pregnant and having babies and her love for helping people, and for natural living come together as one. Her first look at a different kind of birth came when she watched The Business of Being Born. She began to genuinely love talking about pregnancy, and babies, and birth and she soon became the go-to person for my pregnant friends and relatives. She loved watching the look on a woman's face when she realizes she can have the birth she wants; seeing a woman take ownership of her pregnancy and birth through education and advocacy is a true joy. And so, after almost a decade as an administrative assistant, she decided to make a career out of doula work.
She took my doula training, and then a placenta processing training and then became a certified lactation counselor. Since becoming a doula she has learned more than she could have ever imagined about women's bodies and birth. She's become passionate about teaching women about how their bodies work and how to interpret the information their bodies are giving them, like cervical fluid and body temperature. And her beliefs about birth have evolved as she's become more and more confident in physiological birth, and in women's innate autonomy and authority over their bodies and births. She's excited to continue to grow and learn about birth and women and to be able to provide services, and support for women from menarche to birth and postpartum.Tamara Santos, Doula, CLC
