In this episode, Yamel and Danielle discuss:

  • Danielle’s story of experiencing postpartum depression and the series of events that led her to reaching out for support from One Love Doula.

  • Some of the misconceptions surrounding maternal mental health and postpartum depression

  • Warning signs to look out for if you are concerned that someone you love may be suffering from postpartum depression

  • The importance of looking after yourself as a mother to then allow you to look after your babies. You need the foundations of self-care - sleep, nutrition, water, etc - to then be able to care for your babies.

  • Strategies you can use to help overcome the obstacles of postpartum depression, including asking for help and creating a team to help share the load, like Danielle did when she sought our support at One Love Doula to have help during the nights, and seeking therapy.
