Yamel Belen

RN, IBCLC, Doula / Owner

As a doula Yamel sees her role as one to provide support and guidance throughout the prenatal, birth and postpartum period. Experienced as a Registered Nurse with years of Pediatrics as Director of Nursing over the Medical Foster Care program in Tampa Bay, among other skill levels.

Yamel began her journey in birth work when she was 10 years old, her mom experienced precipitous labor at home, and emergency services were slow to arrive. She quickly went to her mother’s bedside and kept her calm until help arrived to their Brooklyn family home.

Certification doula and placenta preparation training in 2013 was all necessary to kick Yamel’s childhood passion into full gear and be better equipped to support One Love families. Additionally, Yamel has furthered her education in the areas of Childbirth Education with Common Sense Midwifery School, DONA via their labor doula training, holistic postpartum training via Barefoot Herbals and then became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Yamel served at Tampa Bay Birth Network as President for over three years and is now their treasurer as well as Parents Magazine Advisory Board Member. In March of 2023 Yamel launched The Motherhood Kit Podcast the ultimate companion for women on the journey of motherhood.

Yamel is married to her high school sweetheart; together they have five kiddos.
